Longing Poetry
I want to wake up
And see nothing but melanation.
Bright smiles set in dark skin
Reflecting back the love of the universe.
I want to wake up
And return to the ways of my ancestors.
Deceivers bearing false gifts
Have me believing that their screens are sacred
And nature is only something to be tamed.
I want to wake up
In my motherland,
Breathe in her crisp air
Plant vegetables in her red soil
And stare in awe at winking stars
Through unpolluted skies.

Thank God you fell,
Another distraction from this hellfire.
Thoughts a poison
Threatening to consume me.
Those who never chased dreams
Or fulfilled desires
Because they feared rejection
