I’m, Monica, the confectioner of Monica’s Brittle Chips, a homemade brittle that is made to bring joy to others while also being a healthier choice compared to candies with High Fructose Corn Syrup. I’m also a student pursuing my recently recognized vocation to be a nutritionist, to aid our community through proper nourishment to stay healthy and avoid diseases. From acquiring a bachelors degree of nutritional science, I will be taking my next step in a mission to cultivate an awareness to protect and nourish our bodies for a healthy prosperous life. My ultimate goal is becoming a doctor of naturopathic medicine to give our community an alternative method of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease to maintain a healthy lifestyle. While pursuing my callings, I work as a pastry cook at a local catering company in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I began my journey in the culinary industry at City College of San Francisco’s Culinary and Hospitality department, where I graduated with an Associates of Science in Culinary Arts. My love of food and particularly sweets began at home, my mother taught my brother and I the basics of cooking when we were young to prepare us for adulthood. I learned how to bake from scratch from my grandmother, we would make cookies, pies, cakes, fudges, as well as my unsupervised back yard stew. With this foundation of home cooking and professional training I went out into the culinary world ready to make delicious meals and mouth watering desserts for the San Francisco Bay Area to enjoy.
Drawing from my desire to keep people healthy, I was inspired to create a healthy treat that taste delicious. Accommodating to the diet preferences of others, Brittle Chips are Gluten- Free, Genetically Modified Organism- Free (GMOs) as well as free of Preservatives. To replace the genetically engineered high fructose corn syrup, I utilize Brown Rice Syrup, which is naturally fermented from Brown Rice. My goal is to continuously evolve around how I can better nourish our community, starting with a sounder sweet.
